Residence in Poland
GENERAL INFORMATION
The terms and conditions of entry and residence of foreign nationals in the Polish territory are regulated by the Polish law. The Polish law makes it conditional that foreigners must possess certain documents or comply with certain formalities.
There are different rules for legalizing the residence of foreigners in Polish territory, depending on whether a foreigner is a EU national or a non-EU national. The requirements to be fulfilled by a foreigner who enters and/or stays in the territory of Poland are more lenient towards foreigners who are citizens of the EU Member States.
A non-Polish citizen may be granted:
- a temporary residence permit (permission to reside in Poland for a specified time) or,
- a permanent residence permit (permission to settle).
